Definition Of:

Dressage

Olympic Games GlossaryNo Dictionary Found
Dressage is the training of horses in obedience and deportment. Competitive dressage is designed to show the horse carrying out, on request, the natural movements that it performs without thinking while running loose. At its highest level, horse and rider achieve total harmony and the rider's commands are barely perceptible. Competitive dressage is an Olympic sport since 1900 and part of the Equestrian events.

Apart from competition, dressage is also a part of the Portuguese and Spanish bullfighting exhibitions and is shown in its absolute development as demonstrated by the art of Classical Dressage by the Spanish Riding School in Vienna and the French School in Saumur.
